Approach to therapy

  • Psychodynamic

Derives insight from previous experiences and childhood to provide connections to current problems. This helps people to recognize problematic patterns in their behavior, beliefs, and emotions and choose to forge new actions. One of the most powerful insights is into a person’s attachment style - quality of relationship to parent(s) or caregiver(s) - because this can subconsciously influence how a person moves towards or away others. Attachment also can impact someone’s ability to self-soothe and feel safe enough to venture out into the world.

  • Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy

A modified form of cognitive therapy that incorporates mindfulness practices that include present moment awareness, breathing exercises, and meditation to help people apply new behavior to assist in their thinking and feeling, regardless of the past. Contrary to traditional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rather than try to avoid or eliminate “negative” emotions, we learn how to change our relationship with these emotions.

  • Somatic

I am currently in training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. SE is a body-oriented approach to the healing of trauma and other stress disorders. A significant part of this approach is based on the Polyvagal theory which helps us to understand how the autonomic nervous system influences our behavior. I use somatic exercises to help people nudge their nervous system towards feeling safe in order to live more often in a state of connection and freedom.

  • Integrative Yoga Therapy

Brings all the tools of yoga: asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing), mudras (hand gestures), meditation, mantra (sounds), and nidra (guided sleep) together. These tools can have a meaningful effect on the mind and body, helping you to manage and heal.

  • Safe & Sound Protocol

An evidence-based listening tool to reset the nervous system and return it to safety. For more information, visit this page.

  • Health coaching & Nutrition

I was an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach before I went to school to become a psychotherapist. I am a FIRM believer that nutrition and fitness can be a major player in improving mental health. For instance: Ultimately, it is your choice, but one of the most significant ways diet can influence symptoms of anxiety and depression is by eliminating added sugar from daily life, savoring it on special occasions.

“I was very uncomfortable at first, and I didn’t know what to expect. So while I was quite anxious at first, I was comfortable before long. She is a great listener and has an amazing memory. Not just one technique, she has a whole tool box of tools. I think that Jenny is a kind, intuitive, and thorough counselor with a talent for sorting out different causes of emotional and mental distress. That is where she stands out in my opinion. There are lots of ways to treat mental health problems and she has a lot of different techniques. Coming from a background of working in a medical clinic, she’s experienced with working with other health professionals which can help. I honestly believe that I got really lucky and found a great counselor. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer my other family members or friends.”

“Jenny has always supported me through compassion and understanding. [She has] also been helpful in educating me throughout our time together. I’ve always appreciated the work that Jenny does for me outside of our appointments together. Jenny is always engaged in our conversations and is able to pick out my main concerns and dig into them. I met Jenny while in crisis and have since then felt very cared for. She personalizes sessions based on what I’m going through. I feel like Jenny is a great fit for those with any sort of trauma, anxiety, depression (and so much more). She has been able to help me through all my problems and has a great undersatnding of trauma from what I’ve seen personally. I’ve felt comfortable about sharing my thoguhts and emotions. I’ve also felt very supported after sharing my feelings and emotions. The most important thing I’ve learned is to “trust the process”. Jenny helps with this so much and in so many different ways or modalitites of therapy. I am thankful to have met Jenny and to work with [her]. “

Initial evaluation [90 min] individual/ couple

This is the session where a lot of clients at the end say, “I’m sorry I just threw so much at you!”. That’s what’s supposed to happen. I can’t get to know you in this first meeting, but you’ll fill me in on many of the key points of why you’re here and I’ll ask questions to get a necessary gist of your past (as much as you’d like to share).

Grab a cup of tea. My goal is to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible which means you’re in control.

$110/130

Psychotherapy followup [50 min] Individual/ couple

After an initial evaluation, it’s down to work. Let’s keep your goals for counseling in mind so you can get the most out of each time we meet. For some, a few sessions will do; for others, they would like ongoing support every week, biweekly or once a month. We will tailor frequency and duration to your needs.
